The New York Yankees and lefty Ryan Yarbrough are closing in on an agreement on a 1-year deal $2.5 million deal with the opportunity to earn $250,000 more with performance bonuses, a source confirms the report of FanSided's Robert Murray.
Yarbrough signed with the Yankees last year late in spring training. Though the 4.36 ERA cumulative ERA does not look great, his versatility was valuable. Yarbrough was able to pitch out of the bullpen and save the rest of the 'pen at times. There were multiple times this season that Yarbrough came in after a starter struggled and he was able to bridge the gap and give the team a chance to win.
Yarbrough also stepped up and pitched out of the rotation when starters went down, and was really solid through the majority of his outings, posting a 3.83 in the rotation.
Yarbrough is a really good depth move for the Yankees, but should not be the only move for the pitching. Adding Yarbrough and another starter makes one of the younger starters expendable over the next few months. For now, the depth and versatility Yarbrough provides is perfect for the Yankees.
