🧠 Takeaways

The Offense

The Yankees offense got started right away with Jazz Chisholm Jr. three-run home run. Cody Bellinger would add another run with a solo home run in the fifth inning.

The offense would go silent until the most important time when Ben Rice showed up. Rice struck out to end the game against Hoffman last night and was familiar with what he throws. Rice took the first pitch from Hoffman and sent it to Montreal to ultimately give the Yankees the win.

Starting Pitching Analysis

Cam Schlittler worked around fire all game, but he allowed two runs in five innings against a really pesky Toronto team. The Blue Jays hit the ball hard against him and battled, particularly in the first two innings but I think it is really promising for the Yankees to see that kind of performance out of their young starter against a division rival and postseason caliber team.

Bullpen Usage

Tim Hill was first out and got screwed by Volpe yet again and the Blue Jays get a run on a pinch hit double by Schneider. Aaron Boone then decided that the next best option to try and get out of the inning was Loaisiga and that backfired on the first pitch he threw being an RBI single and tying the game. The Bullpen was fine after that with Weaver really stepping up to get five outs for his second outing in a row, Hamilton getting a quick out and Williams earning his 15th save of the year against the heart of the Blue Jays lineup.

🧾 Additional Notes

Injury updates:

  • Fernando Cruz began his throwing program over the weekend, as anticipated. Since his oblique injury is still healing, the progression will be gradual. Aaron Boone has previously noted that a return in August remains a possibility.

  • Yerry De Los Santos is expected to pitch in “a couple” more rehab games. Boone added, “He should be in play here very soon.”

  • Ryan Yarbrough has yet to throw off a mound but has resumed playing catch.

Roster moves:

  • No new roster moves at this time.
