NEW YORK -- The Renegade heads to the Bronx as the Yankees and Pirates are finalizing a trade sending 2-time All Star Closer David Bednar to the Boogie Down, sources tell Sports Insider Blog.

David Bednar has quietly established himself as one of the more reliable closers in Major League Baseball over the past few seasons. A two-time All-Star with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bednar combines a power fastball with a sharp-breaking curve to consistently miss bats and limit damage late in games. His calm demeanor on the mound and ability to handle high-leverage situations have made him a key piece in the Pirates’ bullpen and an attractive trade target for contending teams.

Bednar’s strikeout-to-walk ratio and ground ball tendencies reflect a closer who not only racks up saves but does so efficiently. While he may not have the national spotlight that comes with closing for a big-market club, Bednar’s consistency, competitiveness, and track record speak for themselves. Whether anchoring a bullpen in Pittsburgh or stepping into a postseason race elsewhere, Bednar has the stuff and mentality to handle the ninth inning.

The Yankees are sending three prospects -- Rafael Flores, Edgleen Perez, Brian Sanchez -- to Pittsburgh for Bednar.

More info to come.
