Mets 2026 Clubhouse Issues Reveled

It was clear during the course of the season that the Mets had a dysfunctional clubhouse. Those revelations came to light Friday with a bombshell article dropping from the New York Post.

Lindor and McNeill back at odds

The issues started back on June 20th on the Mets 10-2 loss to the Phillies. The Mets were cold on a seven game losing streak and Jeff McNeil did not act with a sense of urgency on a throw to complete a double play.

Mets shortstop, Francisco Lindor took aception to McNeil’s lack of effort and confronted him both on the field and in the clubhouse postgame.

This was not the first time Lindor and McNeil have been at each other’s throats, literally. Back in 2021, the two were involved in an altercation after a miscommunication sparked frustration between the two. The incident gained attention after Lindor jokingly told reporters they were arguing about whether they had seen a “rat or a raccoon,”. While the moment highlighted frustrations during a tough stretch, both players quickly downplayed the incident. Until this season, it seemed everything was fine between the two.

Soto Clubhouse Differences

Another part of the story surrounds the $750 million dollar man, Juan Soto. Soto has been in the middle of clubhouse contravercy before, and all for the same reason. Soto is a very serious player who takes his game very seriously. Lindor, who is the self-proclaimed captain of the Mets clubhouse likes fun and pop culture, where Soto does not. These differences have made their relationship what the post called “chilly”.

Soto is a family man who prioritizes himself and his family above others, and therefore he does not socialize much with the team outside of the ballpark. Soto is not the root of these Mets issues. But, he is working close to David Sterns, Mets GM, to build the 2026 squad.

The tear down of the 2025 squad started last week with Brandon Nimmo getting traded to the Texas Rangers. Sources indicated that McNeil is likely to be traded, and while Lindor being moved is not expected, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
