NEW YORK — The Yankees looked to take the series against the Guardians and split the season series, sending their Ace to the mound.

Injury Report/Roster Moves:

Notes/Analysis:

FINAL: 4–0 NYY

  • WP: Fried (8–1) 1.78

  • LP: Cecconi (1–2) 4.87

Record: 38–23

  • Max Fried’s Final Line:

  • 6.0 IP | 1H | 0R | 0ER | 8K | 2BB | 103P | 1.78 ERA

Fried got off to a rocky start, throwing 29 pitches in the first inning, but Magnificent Max was able to get into a rhythm and worked six scorless innings, striking out eight in the process.

  • The Yankees were being no-hit through 3.1 innings till a little blooper off the bat of Judge fell in front of Noel for a double. Cody Bellinger would put the next pitch in the seats, making it 2–0 NYY.

  • The Yankees had another chance to add on runs in the fifth, loading the bases with no outs, but Rice grounded into a 4–2–3 double play and a Bellinger deep flyout to center. That was a huge missed opportunity for the Yanks.

  • Jazz opened the 6th with a single and advances to third on a stolen base and an E2 with 1 out, ( Volpe flies out on the first pitch for the first out), but Dominguez strikes out and Wells files out to end the inning. This was another huge missed opportunity for the Yankees.

  • Mark Leiter Jr. came on and was only able to get one out, with two soft singles and an E6 behind him (tough luck). Tim Hill came on to a bases loaded, one out jam and played escapologist, getting Naylor to strike out and Noel to fly out to center to end the threat. Hill would stay in and retire the side in order in the eighth inning.

  • Peraza lead off the seventh inning with a single and after a groundout and a deep flyout, the Guardians would intentionally walk Judge to face Bellinger who hit an RBI single and Jazz did the same right behind him, giving the Yankees a 4–0 lead. Volpe would also line a single but Dominguez would fly out to end the threat.

  • Jonathan Loáisiga worked a quick 1–2–3 ninth inning, further making the case to get save opportunities with Weaver on the IL.
