DETROIT, MI -- Reactions to the Giants latest fourth quarter and overtime collapse, dropping this week's game to the Lions 34-27 in overtime.
The Giants came into the fourth quarter with a three point lead, and after their first drive of the fourth, extended the lead to 10 on this play of the year touchdown by Jameis Winston, his first career receiving touchdown.
Another Collapse
For the Giants, it was pure De Ja Vu -- a 10 point lead in the fourth quarter with Shane Bowens Defense needing to protect. Like we have seen so many times this season, they could not.
"I think we had an opportunity at the end of the game and took a really good team to overtime." Interim Head Coach Mike Kafka said. "We've got to find a way to finish those games"
It took the Lions on offense three plays to get within three points on their next drive.
The Giants offense went to sleep, with Winston throwing an interception (the Lions went three and out) and not being able to get downfield from deep in their own territory. At some point, something needs to change. It's almost every week that this team blows leads the way they do.
"We just have to find a way to win." Winston said. "It's a simple as that, I have to do my role better. We all have a part in this"
Solid Offense
The Giants offense was pretty solid for majority of the game. For the expiation of the interception, Winston looked pretty good, including two touchdowns on trick plays.
Until overtime, the Giants did not trail. They twice lead by 10 points in this game, and blew the lead both times.
The Giants defense for the first few possessions looked pretty solid, but once again, the story is the fourth quarter.
At this point, it becomes as mental as it is physical for the Giants with their fourth quarter collapses.
The Giants had a chance after this catch extended a drive to extend their lead, but they simply could not score in the red zone.
The Giants defense actually stepped up on the Lions final drive of regulation, but naturally, the Lions set a franchise record for longest field goal, which tied the game. Every team's longest field goals come against the Giants.
The Giants elected to defer in overtime, and not shockingly, they could not score after the Lions ran a 69-yard touchdown on their first play of overtime. Notably, Dexter Lawerence was not in the game.
"We are desperate for a win." Winston added. "That's one of the things I was echoing in the locker room, let's be desperate for a victory"
Something this week needs to change. The Giants are now 0-5 when leading in the fourth quarter by multiple scores.
