Yankees GM Brian Cashman addressed the media on Thursday at the annual Covenant House, and among the topics that came up were some interesting quotes regarding the Yankees offseason.
"I know it's a meme" Cashman said. "Covenant House is a real difference maker in these kids' lives."
Cashman has attended this event for the past 14 years to give back to the community.
Trent Grisham and the QO

Brian Cashman confirmed that he believed it would be a 50/50 shot that Trent Grisham would take the qualifying offer. Cashman reiterated that he and the Yankees were happy Grisham took the deal.
"We got Grisham in the fold so that, you know, one of our big, big hitters and defenders is back." Cashman said.
"It was a close call. We'd be excited that he was coming back because we believe he's capable of replicating what he did this past year. I wasn't surprised he took it"
The Outfield

Cashman reiterated that he would like a reunion with Cody Bellinger this offseason.
"We'd love to have Bellinger come back." Said Cashman. "I talked to Scott Boras yesterday about Belli and other free agents of his."
Cashman also mentioned that he had conversations with agent Casey Close of Excel Sports Network about his free agents, as well as teams about potential trades.
"He's got Kyle Tucker, you know, amongst others. So you know, that's the nature of the beast and the winter." Cashman said. "You play it out, you talk to the different teams. I had several conversations with teams today, try to find a way either make a trade or or add a free agent, and keep going and keep going and keep going."
A lot of these conversations are the offseason "due diligence" talks, but that's how big moves are made.
Cashman also spoke about how Grisham picking up the QO creates flexability and answers some outfield holes the Yankees had coming into the offseason.
"It gives us a little bit more comfort going in." Cashman said. "Now we have Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones competing and we have Grisham, and we have Judge"
Cashman continuing to have conversations with agents about Tucker and Bellinger signals that either Jasson Domínguez or Spencer Jones, or both, could be traded this offseason.
Pitching and Everything Else

The Yankees rotation has a lot of depth to it, but will be weak to start the season. Cashman would like to bolser that and make the rotation the strength of the team.
"We have concerns in the beginning, our rotations on paper are going to be really good when healthy, but we start the season with Rodón and Cole recovering from their surgeries, so they won't start, probably till May. And because of that, obviously there's some vulnerability in the front end of the season with that."
While Cashman mentioned that he had conversations with Scott Boras about Tatsuya Imai, he also mentioned the depth the Yankees have in their farm system waiting in the wings.
"So you saw what Cam Schlittler did, but we got other guys behind the scenes that they're making a name for themselves. ERC LaLane, to name a few."
While none of these names are expected to be ready to start the year with the big league club, they could make an impact at some point of the season.
Cashman also mentioned the bullpen, which currently has some holes in it.
"We lost Weaver and Devin Williams out of the bullpen to free agency, and those guys were important pieces to build bridges to get to our closer, Bednar, so we got a lot of work to do. We got a lot of holes to fill."
The one thing it sounds like is the Yankees are going to be aggressive. Cashman also confirmed that Grisham taking the QO will not handcuff the Yankees financially, adding “I’m good at spending money,”. The Yankees have the opportunity to go all-in this offseason and make this team a true World Series favorite.
